Project Overview

Orange Water and Sewer Authority identified the existing asbestos cement water main in Hillsborough Street as in need of repair through their prioritization model. Design of the new main was complicated by the heavily traveled nature of the roadway, bus routes along the road, and proximity to the UNC campus. Numerous housing locations popular with students required careful coordination with the university calendar and the Town to avoid impacts. Due to the impactful nature of the project OWASA chose to include replacement of an existing sewer main crossing to avoid future necessary repairs.
